Market Infrastructure Now Has an IT Resilience Framework

Markets depend on systems that remain available when participants need them. An interruption can matter even when the underlying investment thesis has not changed.

SEBI issued an IT Resilience Index framework for market infrastructure institutions on 24 August 2026. It covers factors including availability, security, integrity, governance and business continuity. Read the framework.

Keep the scope clear

The framework addresses the covered market infrastructure institutions. It is not a resilience rating for every trading app, fintech startup or portfolio on the internet. A company should not imply it has an official score simply because it discusses these ideas.

Ask what happens when a system fails

For a research workflow, useful questions include whether a stale price is clearly labelled, whether a failed request can be retried safely, and whether the team knows which records remain authoritative.

Imagine a dashboard loses its data connection. Continuing to show an old number without its timestamp is different from showing the last observation and an explicit service interruption. The interface can influence how a person interprets the same event.

Look for tested recovery

A diagram of a backup system is weaker evidence than a documented recovery exercise. Ask what was tested, what failed and what was changed afterward. Our practical questions are engineering considerations, not a substitute for the regulator’s measurement criteria.

The circular schedules detailed industry measurement criteria for completion by 30 November 2026, a future milestone as of this publication. Source checked on 14 October 2026.
