The version of a framework matters. A reference to an established publication, a concept note and a document under revision should not sound like three interchangeable final standards.
As checked on 14 October 2026, NIST’s official page identifies AI RMF 1.0 as a voluntary framework, notes that it is being revised, and describes an April 2026 concept note for a critical-infrastructure profile. See NIST’s current resources.
Name the document you actually used
For an internal review, record its title, version, publication status and access date. A statement that a product follows an AI framework should explain which practices were implemented and what evidence supports that statement.
Do not treat a future profile or a proposed revision as though its final requirements are already known. A reference also does not establish certification, regulatory approval or the quality of investment predictions.
Test the product’s particular risks
For a research assistant, examine unsupported claims, stale documents, access controls and how corrections are handled. For an analytical model, add the data definitions, evaluation period and conditions under which the output should be withheld.
Assign responsibility
Identify who reviews failures and who can stop a workflow. An escalation path has to work in practice, including when the most knowledgeable person is unavailable.
The result should be a documented review process rather than a decorative framework logo. These are practical assessment questions, not a claim of compliance with a new mandatory Indian AI standard.
